Model Art Pavilion

Gluckman Tang, an architecture firm with its roots in spaces for art, launched the Model Art Pavilion (MAP) at Design Miami’s Private Collectors’ Lounge. The modular structure is part of the “Revolution” collection, a series of limited-edition prefabricated pavilions and homes conceived by design and real estate developer Robbie Antonio in exclusive collaboration with more than thirty of the world’s preeminent architects, artists, and designers.

“Our partnership with Gluckman Tang reflects a shared commitment to fostering the creation and appreciation of art around the world,” said Robbie Antonio. “Gluckman Tang are artists in their own right, so it’s entirely appropriate that their Model Art Pavilion should be leading the Revolution collection.”

The 156-square-foot. (19 ft. x 8.2 ft. x 10.5 ft. high) structure is made of basic materials: lacquered solid wood, plywood, and translucent polycarbonate, and comfortably accommodates several paintings or sculptures and a small group of people. The interior is a clean white box, while the exterior is available in a range of typical shipping container colors. Slots at the edges of the space introduce reflected, diffuse daylight; access is through a sliding door.

“The Model Art Pavilion is a simple, elegant structure to experience art in any location – from a beach to a roof deck to a global art fair,” said Richard Gluckman, FAIA. “Designing the pavilion gave us the opportunity to create a structure that serves as a sculptural object and as a frame for the dynamic presentation of art.”

Like all of Gluckman Tang’s spaces for art, such as the Museo Picasso Málaga and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, this compact pavilion elegantly mediates the relationship between the site, the participant, and the art object. Designed as a frame within a frame – the two holding each other in a structural fold – the pavilion simultaneously provides views in to the art and out to the landscape.

The potential uses of the MAP extend beyond the art world. The pre-crafted shelter can also be used as an intimate music room, meditation space, or work studio.

The pavilions will be produced in a limited edition of ten priced at $120,000 each.

Precrafted pavilions by world’s preeminent architects made their debuts at Design Miami/ 2015

Revolution Precrafted Properties unites more than 30 of the world’s preeminent architects, artists and designers to create a series of prefabricated living spaces, including Pritzker Prize-winner Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, Kengo Kuma, and Campana Brothers, among others. The result is a diverse collection of innovative, functional and collectible structures.

The launch at Design Miami/ 2015 debuts Zaha Hadid’s curved VOLU Pavilion and Gluckman Tang’s structured Model Art Pavilion, each individually imbued with its designer’s personal concept of spatial form and social function.

Robbie Antonio has developed premier commercial, residential, cultural, and civic projects around the world in collaboration with artists, architects, and designers. Having worked with nine Pritzker Prize-winning architects and no less than 67 international brands, Antonio has established himself as a leading tastemaker and specialist in the spheres of art, architecture, design, branding and real estate.

ETN Design is a new venture from Edward Tyler Nahem, whose eponymous New York gallery was founded over thirty years ago and specializes in modern, post-war and contemporary art. Nahem and Antonio share a belief in the power of design to shape our world.

In Miami, Zaha Hadid presents prefabricated dining pavilion

In the search for transportable, accessible and collectible structures, the focus of the REVOLUTION project , award-winning Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid created a dining pavilion for the first piece in the series of pavilions and prefabricated houses.

Zaha Hadid’s ‘Volu’ Pavilion holds up to 10 people.

Presented at this year’s Design Miami, the Volu pavilion impresses with its technological and metallic structure, with hollow details and wooden furniture. Concept by the architect in partnership with Patrick Schumacher, the piece resembles a semi-open shell, with a platform floor, floor and column. In total, they are 6 meters high and 20 m2 in total, which house three curved benches and a round table.

“Defined by sophisticated digital processes, the structure has been developed in such a way that its components are, at best, singly curved. The innovations were computer-programmed to integrate manufacturing constraints into the design while allowing engineering feedback in an interactive delivery process”, explains the REVOLUTION website, which underscores that the topology of the dining pavilion was designed to remove unnecessary materials and recreate principles found in nature.

Structured like a metallic shell, the pavilion has a floor and ceiling connected by a hollow column.

Inside the Volu, the wooden furniture holds up to 10 people.

Watch Zaha Hadid’s Dining Pavilion Come Into Fruition

Design Miami/ kicks off its 2015 edition today with, as always, a rather impressive list of headliners from all of those spheres. Some of them will be part of the Revolution Project, a showcase of limited-edition prefabricated pavilions and homes and the brainchild of real-estate developer Robbie Antonio.

Among Revolution’s highlights, architect Zaha Hadid designed the clamshell-evoking Volu dining pavilion in collaboration with Patrik Schumacher, a partner at her eponymous firm. True to form, they conceived an amalgam of fluidity and flow, organic forms, geometry, and high-tech edginess, all of which contribute to a sort of futuristic style.

The structure resembles a network of bands that connect around cellular voids — beginning in the floor, then gathering into a vertical, spine-like stem that grows upward before folding once more to form a cantilevering canopy. Louvers fill the roof’s apertures, while solid panels fill the floor’s 35 hollows.

Completing the look, bespoke furnishings also designed by the pair sport the signature aesthetic of Hadid’s other pieces that eschew exposed joints for fluid curves.

Revolution Precrafted Properties is showing a backyard pavilion (top) and Sarah Myerscough Gallery from London is showing a series of collaborative vessels by Zaha Hadid and Gareth Neal (below), that sell for $30,000 (plus tax).

In addition, the star of Harvard’s design schools kickoff party at Miami developer Craig Robins’ house was his bespoke Corian bathroom designed by Ms. Hadid.

The annual event Design Miami is now open

Design Miami, an annual design event, officially kicks off (December 2-6). One of the highlights is the “Revolution” project initiated by real estate developer Robbie Antonio. More than 30 well-known architects, designers, and artists have joined forces to create A living space that emphasizes both advanced technology and cost-effectiveness. Among them, the dining room “Volu” designed by Zaha Hadid combines streamlined shape with high-tech material buckling treatment, and precise digital cutting technology can reduce material waste during production. Set new standards for environmental protection.

Amar’e Stoudemire wants to become ‘a legit’ art collector

Former Knick Amar’e Stoudemire has immersed himself in the art scene, saying his goal is to become “a legit and serious collector. It’s for my children — when they get older they can look back and say my father had this art in 2015,” the dad of three said during at a Surface magazine Design Dialogues event Tuesday at the W Hotel South Beach.

Stoudemire, who joined the Miami Heat this year, works with a team to help him pick pieces.

“I have a pretty strong advisory group that I chat with on a normal basis just to be fully equipped and knowledgeable on the market,” he said. “Emerging artists are risky, so you want to make sure that you’re surrounded by good people who know the most about art and who will lead you in the right direction.”

Stoudemire name-checked street artist Retna, who recently did the album art for Justin Bieber‘s “Purpose,” as someone he’s interested in.

The baller added, “A lot of athletes are so submersed in training and becoming the best that we can possibly be, so tunnel-vision to that … hopefully the rest of us will catch up soon and educate themselves and become collectors.”

Amar’e was previously involved in the fashion world. “It all depends on what you want to spend your money on — you want to buy a painting or you want to buy a Balmain jacket. You have to look good while buying art,” he quipped. Joining him on the panel was real estate developer and art collector Robbie Antonio.

Art Basel CELEBS Start The Party Early!

But this time around, the biggest celebrities can’t even wait for the actual event, which runs Dec. 3 to Dec. 6.

They’re starting their parties early.

Maybe they should rename it pARTy Basel?

Unless you’re a super cool kid, you may not be able to get into most of these parties.

But then Art Basel is actually supposed to be about the art, now isn’t it?

On Tuesday, before Art Basel even opens, actress Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby) is scheduled to host a private party with famed celeb photographer Bruce Weber at the Delano hotel for DuJourMagazine.

Sylvester Stallone will be hosting a a party at the former Versace Mansion on the same night.

And Miami Heat star Amar’e Stoudemire will be leading a talk on fashion and art along with art collector Robbie Antonio at the W South Beach.

Then Wednesday, Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody will be showing off his own paintings in show called “Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Handguns” at Lulu Laboratorium.

On Basel’s opening day, Dec. 3, Eva Longoria will co-host the launch of Ricardo Barroso Interiors at Casa Tua.

Alicia Keys will be performing at her husband Swizz Beatz‘s three-day Untameable Houseparty.

And Friday, actress Katie Holmes (Batman Begins, Woman in Gold) will host Ocean Drive‘s Art of the Party at A-Rod‘s old Miami Beach estate.

Later in the week DMX and Wiz Khalifa will also lend their talents to South Beach.

Russell Simmons will be hosting the 6th Annual Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Finale Party along withDanny Simmons and Rosario Dawson at the Nautilus Hotel. Ciara, TK Wonder and Cipriana Quann are supposed to be there.

And Paris Hilton will do her annual stint at Wall nightclub.

Because nothing says art like Paris Hilton!

Celebrities will flock to Miami to rub elbows with the art elite during Art Basel, which runs Thursday through Sunday. But many over-the-top parties will take place even before the art fair officially begins.

On Tuesday, Hilary Swank and Adrien Brody will help DuJour magazine kick things off with a party hosted by photographer Bruce Weber and his companion/agent Nan Bush at the Delano. Surface will host a panel with Miami Heat star Amar’e Stoudemire and real estate developer Robbie Antonio at W South Beach. And Sylvester Stallone will help Galerie Gmurzynska open a showcase curated by Germano Celant with cocktails at the former Versace Mansion.

Later in the week, Eva Longoria and Ricky Martin will honor Related Group’s Jorge Pérez at a Global Gift Initiative event and Paris Hilton will do her annual DJ thing at the nightclub Wall.

Fashion types will also party with Moschino designer Jeremy Scott during Montauk hotel The Surf Lodge’s pop-up at The Hall South Beach. A$AP Rocky will play the III Points concert series and New York clubs popping up will include 1Oak, Bounce Sporting Club and No. 8.
