Navigating Business Superstitions During Ghost Month

ghost month in business

by Robbie Antonio

As an entrepreneur who experienced the ups and downs of creating a unicorn, I’ve learned to brace for the unexpected. Entrepreneurship is a journey filled with obstacles to overcome as we  navigate uncharted waters. Then there is Ghost Month, an ominous time that adds a fascinating element really, to what is already a complicated commercial world. The traditional notions that dominate this time of year have made their way into my entrepreneurial career and have provided both lessons and cautionary tales.

A Dance with the Unknown

In many East Asian traditions, the onset of Ghost Month evokes mystery. Traditions and superstitions take precedence this season, creating a special spell that affects companies of all sizes. The murmurs and cautions that fellow business owners share during this period come to mind as I think back on my own experiences. It’s a delicate dance with the unknown that adds some complexity to  the art of running a business.

To Launch or Not to Launch?

Imagine that your innovative product—the result of countless sleepless nights, unwavering dedication, and the combined brilliance of your team—is about to be unveiled. But then you realize it’s Ghost Month, and all of a sudden, warnings start to echo. “Wait until it’s over,” they say. According to superstition, businesses made around this period may provoke the rage of wandering spirits. It’s a pivotal moment where reason and superstition collide and business dances with, well, the paranormal.

A precious ceasefire

Many may dismiss these notions as mere superstitions. But where business is also a very fierce competition between brands and products, Ghost Month does offer some respite, a precious ceasefire if you will, where all can have some time to think and reassess. Now is the moment to prepare, make adjustments, and make sure that every aspect of your business is in sync. This time period serves as a reminder to pay attention to every detail and move cautiously and methodically in the hustle and bustle of startup life. Of course competition might violate the ceasefire – but at their own risk!

Honoring Tradition, Embracing Change

Honoring tradition in the dynamic world of entrepreneurship doesn’t imply ignoring innovation. Finding the right balance between honoring the past and embracing the future is the goal. Ghost Month encourages us to consider our ancestry and make connections with the cultural environment that helped to form us. By incorporating traditional components into our business journey, we close the generational divide and develop a narrative that goes beyond profit margins.

The Path Less Traveled

Looking back on my own entrepreneurial experience, I find myself enjoying the subtleties that Ghost Month added to the  journey. It’s a period when I was reminded to make every choice with humility, to respect the unknowable, and to understand that success frequently results from a combination of measured risk and mystic magic.

I’ve learned from Ghost Month that there’s beauty in recognizing the unexpected and the fact that there are forces beyond our control in the world of entrepreneurship. It serves as a reminder that the story of entrepreneurship is richer when tales, traditions, and beliefs are included in addition to financial data and bottom lines.

Court Dismisses All Complaints Against Revolution Precrafted

by Globe News Wire

Following complaints stemming from unavoidable complications brought on by the global pandemic in early 2020, the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) first cleared Revolution Precrafted and its CEO Robbie Antonio of any wrongdoing in November 2021. Now, the noted real estate businessman and his company have scored yet another legal victory as the Makati RTC Office of the Prosecutor once again dismissed the second, and only remaining case on April 7, 2022. The court declared both cases as unfounded.

Cited in its resolution (NPS no. XV-05-INV-21J-1918), the court determined that “there is no evidence to support a complaint for syndicated estafa or violation of P.D. 1689,’’ and neither was there evidence to conclude that “Revolution, through respondents as officers and directors, committed or performed acts of defraudation and misappropriation.”

“Of course, there is a sense of vindication as the court’s decision supports the fact that we have always honored our legitimate commitments to all connected business parties,” Antonio said. “While this was just an unfortunate and unavoidable situation, we are happy to have sorted out all issues and now turn our focus to exciting developments ahead. With the world slowly beginning to return to normal, we are in the process of studying our operations, and considering plans to explore all-new areas with Revolution Precrafted.”

Founded by Robbie Antonio in 2015, Revolution Precrafted is a collaboration of almost one hundred of the world’s foremost creatives in architecture, art, and design which produces a full suite of limited-edition precrafted living spaces, adaptive amenity spaces, pavilions.

Lady Gaga Shoemaker Finds Perfect Fit In Asian Market

by ABS-CBN News

MANILA – The creator of Lady Gaga’s shoes, which found instant fans in other celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian among others, is looking to expand its footprint in a fast-growing, trendy Asian market, according to Rem D Koolhaas, founder and creative director of global footwear brand United Nude.

Koolhaas, who described his brainchild as an “affordable design company” and whose products are “exclusive by design, and not by price,” is on his second visit to the Philippines, following UN’s flagship opening at Resorts World Manila in Dec. 2018.

There are also talks of opening more stores in the horizon, but Koolhaas was quick to add that there was no need to rush into the fresh market.

“One of the reasons I think that we are popular in Southeast Asia is because there have been a lot of economic growth over the past decade. And therefore, there’s a lot of interest and newness, and there’s not so much retrospect in a new market like that,” said Koolhaas in an exclusive chat with ANC’s “The Boss.”

Unlike its European counterpart, which Koolhas has described as “conservative” and “casual” citing the influence of established heritage brands, Asia, he said, has a higher interest in fashion, taking note of the women who tend to dress up “a little bit more.”

The California-based Dutch native also revealed plans to venture beyond fashion and into hospitality like United Nude Hotel or into property with Filipino real estate billionaire Robbie Antonio of Revolution Precrafted, the Philippines’ first Unicorn startup.

“We’re always interested to find a collaborator, but we also get a lot of requests for collaboration,” said Koolhaas.

Among United Nude’s current collaborations include Lady Gaga’s choreographer Richard “Richy” Jackson, and African-American Shaun Ross, the world’s first albino male model.

Established in 2003 with Galahad Clark, a seventh-generation scion of the Clark shoe brand, United Nude’s shoes are sold in over 50 countries with concept stores in places, such as Vienna, Tokyo, and Beijing, among others. Its roster of other high-profile creative collaborations include Iris van Herpen, Linda Farrow, and the late Zaha Hadid. – Jan Yumul, Eah Antonio, Christel Lagdameo, and Cathy Yang, ABS-CBN News
